Tomato Thokku / Thakkali Thokku – Onion Tomato Thokku

Tomato thokku or Thakkali thokku is a simple side dish that goes with chapathi, poori, idli, dosa and the list goes on…. It’s my favorite since child hood. This thokku along with Poori would be the default menu that I would ask Amma to make on my birthday. I normally like to make this and store it, but we all love it so much that it gets finished in 2-3 days. I had posted this recipe long back, now updated with new pics. 🙂

If you do not want to include onions and like your thokku to be more like a pickle, check this Tomato Pickle recipe. It tastes totally different due to the addition of freshly ground spices.

Now to the recipe…

Tips:

  1. I have used onions because I made a small batch of thokku. If u are making in bulk or want to store, u can skip onions.
  2. U can use sambar powder instead of chilli powder.
  3. Use red and ripe tomatoes.
  4. Store it in a glass jar or bottle once it is cooled completely.
